Who we are:

The Democracy at Work Institute expands the worker cooperative model to meet the needs of workers locked out of good jobs and business ownership opportunities, especially BIPOC, recent immigrant, and low wage workers.

How we can help:

We help build capacity for worker cooperative development as a community wealth building strategy. We train cooperative developers to improve their impact and outcomes, educate key business service providers about worker ownership, and support local partners to develop simple evaluative metrics.

We are excited to announce a new worker cooperative developer training program for Chicago developers.

The 2024 Chicago Worker Cooperative Developer Cohort is facilitated by the Democracy at Work Institute with support from the Chicago Community Wealth Building Ecosystem Hub at the University Illinois-Chicago as part of the Community Wealth Building Initiative of the City of Chicago. This is a bi-lingual (English-Spanish) program.

We are seeking to build the capacity of local organizations to develop worker cooperatives. Participants will shape a clear and effective project roadmap, strengthen their development acumen, and establish relationships with seasoned developers and technical assistance advisors to accompany their journey.

This year-long community of learning and practice launches in January 2024. Applications are due Dec. 1, 2023. Interested applicants must attend one of two informational webinars to be held on Nov. 14 and Nov. 16, 2023. Please see attached documents for more information.

¡Hola!
