Pre-Development Projects

Project Goals

What proportion of Goal 1 overall is complete at this point?

50%

What are the barriers and opportunities for completion that impacted goal 1 in the last month?

The group moves deliberately in terms of making decisions, taking our time to make sure everyone gets an opportunity to ask questions and provide input. As a result, we sometimes adjust our pacing to make room for the time it takes to discuss and make decisions.

What proportion of Goal 2 overall is complete at this point?

10%

What are the barriers and opportunities for completion that you impacted goal 2 in the last month?

We are still having difficulty finding affordable buildings in the neighborhood. Based on conversations with PIHCO, we adapted a survey to support gathering data about the people who want to live in the cooperative, which will help us in conversations with potential lenders.

What proportion of Goal 3 overall is complete at this point?

30%

What are the barriers and opportunities for completion that you impacted goal 3 in the last month?

While we are finding some programs/funds that we could make use of, a lot still depends on what building we end up getting. There are many programs/sources of funding that we know are thinking about including cooperatives in the future or are currently in development specifically for cooperatives, but there is still a long way to go to make this a reality.

Please share any comments about the working group meetings.

There are a lot of good ideas and a lot of work happening. But there is more work than people (which is pretty standard when it comes to movement building). I am excited to see the future collaborations that come out of the foundation that is being expanded for cooperative ecosystems.

What constraints or limitations with internal capacity is the organizarion experiencing related to its Pre-Development Project?

Time is a constraint. There is a lot to cover, and we do it bilingually, taking time so that people can process the conversations and proposals, and so that we can come to consensus whenever possible on decisions. Sometimes there is more work than people when it comes to getting things done. So we are taking out time. Moving deliberatively.

What opportunities, if any, did the organization take advantage of related to its Pre-Development Project?

Continuing our relationship building with organizations that have already provided support, and gathering possible resources for when there is a building.

Optional Space

Please use this space to elaborate, contextualize, or add any additional info about the details submitted in your report:

As I have mentioned before, there is a lot of work happening, and a long way to go still. The conversations around accessing different sources of funding have just begun. Really appreciate how the UIC clinic has had an interpreter when we meet, and has made the effort to have everything in Spanish and English.
