May had great opportunities appear for our expansion project, including a productive meeting with the 25th Ward Alderman which included and engaged our PIHCO members regarding our potential expansion projects. We also are working on following up on our design charrettes–our community and artist driven design process–and have been proactively reaching out to local artists, potential members, and potential tenants around design and needs for artists and businesses. We’ve also had follow-up conversations with a primary candidate for a potential anchor tenant, El Paseo Community Garden, which has expressed its explicit interest in establishing a trailhead office for the El Paseo trail

Through our participation in the 25th Ward Stakeholders community group and conversations with the alderman, we’ve learned of an upcoming RFP process which will be opening in the third quarter of this year, and are in ongoing conversations with departments regarding those details. We have garnered support from the alderman to help advocate for PIHCO to gain access to the announced municipal bond development fund, and similarly are in communication with departments about the rollout of that program.

With the announcement of the Q3 RFP regarding 18th & Peoria opening up, we are calibrating our efforts to ensure we have as complete an understanding of the process and all the materials necessary to submit a proposal given the timeframe. This includes ramping up efforts on producing a comprehensive design.
