We had a lot of great updates this month! - We hosted two co-op educational sessions for the new cooperative members on visioning / purpose and power. This month, we start looking at business models! - We facilitated ChiFresh through two culture-building sessions where they workshopped the language of their second value (around transforming failure into opportunity) and began to unlearn unhelpful assumptions about what it means to be a leader, and define what leadership means at their cooperative. - We worked with UGC and the advisory council of the compost cooperative project to begin drafting a plan to onboard a project manager - UDC onboarded a new administrative manager who is streamlining grants, insurance, legal admin, and compliance across our incubated projects (ChiFresh, Jumpstart, New Co-op). - We supported Jumpstart members to sign their share agreements and officially purchase their units.
What constraints or limitations, if any, did you experience in the last reporting period?
City funding delays on CWEB Phase II grants meant we had to adjust our budget (because of the interest on the bridge loan) and loan term agreements with the Jumpstart Housing Co-op lender, Shared Capital Cooperative.
What opportunities, if any, did you take advantage of in the last reporting period?
One of UDC's projects is to build tools in partnership with other cooperative developers, as part of the Solidarity Resource collective. As we've been building the new manufacturing cooperative, we've been developing cooperative incubation project management tools that will both be helpful for our project but also could be integrated into the solidarity economy toolkit we are building for a national audience.
