CWB Goals

Please provide a brief update on your progress toward your proposed CWB goals in the last reporting period:

- Progress made on 'State of the Chicago Cooperative Ecosystem' final report as a CWB deliverable - Co-hosted monthly Working Groups - Met with Phase II Pre-Development grantees one-on-one to work through reporting platform and connection to Technical Assistance as needed - Continued strategy and implementation of formal knowledge transfer to Chicago entities - Participated in local cooperative community events - Built partnership with the Illinois Center for Employee Ownership (ILCEO) to push forward a City Office of Employee Ownership as part of the EO Resolution in the Committee on Economic, Capital, and Technology Development (Alderman Villegas as chair) - Nominated presented three New Worker Cooperative awards at the first annual ILCEO Employee Ownership Celebration: Cooperation Racine, HAZ Cooperative Studios, and Corner Store Co-Op - Participated in national cohort of Community Wealth Building, convened by The Democracy Collaborative - Met with Department of Housing to coordinate programming with shared equity initiatives, expanding the TOPA policy of the Northwest Preservation Ordinance to be city-wide, green social housing - Work with state task force leaders in the housing cooperatives and community land trust spaces to coordinate research agendas -

An entity that can support housing co-ops process grant funds to avoid debilitating income taxes - co-ops like PIHCO are explicitly structured NOT as 501(c)3 organizations because of the financial viability of their model in Pilsen.

 

What are the greatest gaps in service or resources in Chicago's CWB ecosystem?

CHA voucher compatibility confusion, and first-time homebuyer assistance being explicitly available for cooperatives
